Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are social work services covered by Insurance? Although my services are not covered by OHIP, most insurance plans will cover psychotherapy by a Registered Social Worker (RSW). Please review your policy. Psychological services are considered a health expense and may be deductible on your income tax.

Q: What can I expect from a therapy session? All sessions are 50 minutes. Psychotherapy begins with a session dedicated to gathering background information in order to determine a treatment plan. Follow-up sessions focus on addressing areas of concern and collaborating on/reviewing between-session homework.

Q: Can we talk before I decide if I'd like to work with you? Yes! Making sure I am a good fit for you is critical to the success of your therapy. Please email me a phone number where you can be reached and we can schedule a quick chat.

Q: What are your fees? Do you offer sliding scale? My individual therapy fee is $185/50 minute session. Parent consultation with two individuals is $210/50 minute session. At this time, I do not offer sliding scale fees for any of my services.

Q: What payment methods do you accept? Fees must be paid immediately following each session and can be made by e-transfer to r.orsini.sw@gmail.com. Credit card payments are not currently available.

Q: What is your cancellation policy? Clients are asked to kindly reach out within 48 hours of their appointment to cancel or change their session - late cancellations are subject to my full fee.

Q: Do you offer in-person services? All services are virtual-only at this time and are restricted to Ontario residents only. Sessions are held through Owl Practice – a secure mental health practice management platform. Clients are sent instructions on how to connect to their personal client portal before their first session. Information about Owl can be found here: https://owlpractice.ca/

Q: My concern isn't listed in your services. What now? It is very important for clients to be matched with a therapist who is competent in the areas the client is seeking help for. If you are curious about my scope of practice, I encourage you to reach out so we can discuss whether I have the skills to support your needs or if another provider would be a better fit. When possible, I do my best to help refer clients to alternative services that will better suit them.

Q: How often will we meet? For how long? Length and frequency of treatment is always reviewed in the first session once I have a better understanding of a client’s needs and goals. Practical considerations such as scheduling and finances are also always considered – if you would prefer to discuss before committing to a session, please reach out to schedule a free consult call.

Q: Will you complete formal letters of support for insurance? If you require documentation of this kind, I always advise clients to first contact their Primary Care Provider (eg: family doctor) to discuss their needs as I am unable to provide diagnostic or prognostic information as a registered social worker. With written consent, I am happy to provide brief letters of support for clients indicating the general reason for treatment, dates and length of sessions, and clinical impression, based on my scope of practice. Fees for documentation services are pro-rated based on my individual therapy fee.
